last night, rach turned 18! she started and ended the night with a song sang so beautifully. amazing.
as usual, i screwed up my 18 candles message, forgetting things and being incoherent. but anyhoo, it doesn't matter. she knows what i wanted to say anyway.
last night, too, was ongbalde's first public presentation. not just a teacher. not just a class. a full public audience: people we don't know, people who don't know us. well, well, well, what can i say? umaasenso na ang ongbalde. innovated na ang aming hardware at software! haha. frustrating, though, how we slaved over that video for weeks on end and the whole video lasted just 10 minutes. boohoo. but anyway, the laughs, the oh-my-gahds, the awwwws and the yiheeeees were enough to lift my spirits. so did the grabe-it's-so-nices and the simple smiles and nods of approval. hihi. sayang, walang standing ovation. but i know it will come soon enough. lol. oo na, shameless self-appraisal. so what? it's my blog. lol. and besides, rach loved the video and that's enough for me.
i appeared several times on stage, too. the video presentation, two proxies, a mock song number, and of course sa 18 candles. medyo nakakahiya na, but what the heck. iba na talaga pag celebrity. lagi kang in-demand, but that's part of it. haha.
*toink* moments of the night:

stick: ha? ano? AYAN NARIRINIG NA KITA!
jonas: ssh! naririnig ka rin namin.

migo: unfortunately, stella couldn't be here, so to proxy for her is...
me: ikaw!

i wanted to outgrow my party-planner stint, but it may never seem to go away. some behind-the-scenes action (haha. this is more for rach's purpose):
the video
tita annie texted me about the video, asking if we can make one for rach. syempre, ongbalde to the rescue!! after getting pics from ate jing, getting video clips of the class' message for rach, and figuring out how and when mae, stella, and i, could possibly get together, we finally start on our masterpiece.
*in atc*
me: GUYS! dali! message for rach! say "Hi Rach! Message! Happy Birthday!"
them: wait lang... mag-iisip pa ako ng message.
*after waiting*
me: ready?!
them: sige na nga...
me: ok. 1...2...
someone else: pia! andyan na si rach!
me: shet! ang tagal niyo kasi eh!
*when everyone's starting to leave atc*
pia: uy! wala pang message yung ongbalde!
mae: ay oo nga! dali. sa banyo na lang!
pia: sa banyo?!
stella: madi! take our video!
madi: wuuuuut? but i'm gonna watch a movieeeeee...
stella: dali na!
*and we rush to the foodcourt c.r.*
*cramming the video the afternoon of the party*
pia: okay...so add ko 'to...shet nagmove lahat...
mae: akala ko ba tatanggalin natin yan?
pia: ay onga pala...so tanggaling natin 'to...
mae: pa'no yung panning?
pia: onga noh...teka, teka. pasok muna natin 'to...delete this...yung panning...
mae: yung transition pa.
pia: ay onga noh. wait lang...
mae: dapat four seconds yung pictures.
pia: mae?! bakit paisa-isa mo sinasabi?!
*almost done with the video*
pia: teka, stressful!!! na-s-stress na 'ko... *manipulate video*
mae: konti na lang...
pia: arrgh! tama na! mag-picture na nga lang tayo!

it was all well and good.
the song number
rach asked me if the fingers (the amazing singing group of the honor sec) can perform an intermission number. syempre, payag na naman ako. december na and still no number from fingers. then ivy said sf (rach's kada) wants to perform. edi okay! another surprise.
*rach texts me*
rach: pia, okay na ba song number niyo?
pia: secret...hihi. basta ayos na lahat.
*i text ivy*
pia: ivy! okay na number niyo diba?
ivy: yup! okay na!
*and that went on from the day rach asked me if the fingers can perform until the night of the party haha. rach kasi, walang tiwala sakin.*
the biggest surprise of them all
the inital plan was the fingers would sing "kiss the girl", then enzo comes in and does his own thing. sayang hindi natuloy yung kiss the girl haha. but something better happened naman. hehe.
*months before the party*
pia: enzo, okay lang kumanta ka for rach? after ng number namin, kanta ka for rach. ikaw bahala kung ano.
enzo: sure.
*weeks before the party*
enzo: pia, okay lang ba kung kasama fongga?
pia: sure. basta ikaw pa rin yung star.
*days before the party*
pia: enz okay ka na ha?
enzo: no reply
*ONE day before the party*
enzo: hindi buo yung kakantahin ko ha. onting part lang.
pia: kasama mo fongga?
enzo: hindi. ako lang.
pia: ah okay. bakit part lang?
enzo: mamatay ako pag buo! first verse and chorus lang please.
pia: kaya mo yan!
enzo: wala akong mahanap na kasabay na music eh!
pia: what?! a capella ka pa? sige na nga...
enzo: pa'no ba kumanta?
pia: from the heart! haha
enzo: ...
pia: enz, para kay rach naman eh.
enzo: *big smile*
*afternoon of the party, while mae and i were cramming the video*
enzo: may cd burner ka ba?
pia: i'm at mae's pero meron siya. bakit?
enzo: pa-burn nung kanta! (kailan pa ma'y ikaw by christian bautista)
pia: bakit ngayon mo lang sinabi?!
enzo: please... kaya yan!
*we weren't able to burn it for him, but he found a way. he was determined not to sing a capella*
*night of the party*
enz's woes and worries as his big number approaches, from the moment he arrived till right before he performed:
-- pia, ang daming tao.
-- pia, sabayan mo 'ko!
-- yung first verse at chorus lang ha.
-- okay lang talaga na may cd? hindi ko kayang ako lang eh.
-- kinakabahan na 'ko...
-- hindi ako marunong kumanta ha...
-- pwede ba akong magsalita muna bago ako kumanta? magso-sorry lang ako sa mga tao kasi hindi naman ako singer...

my reply to everything:
i don't care what you do as long as you sing! enz kaya mo yan. YOU CAN DO IT!
and he ended up singing very well (with a few minor oopsies), singing the entire song, and most of all, making rach cry. tears of joy naman eh. hehe. it was one of my favorite parts of the evening. hindi na bebeh si bebeh enzo!

uu nga. biruin mo naman, out of all the fongga members, si enzo pa yung 1st to accomplish that. goal naming lahat yun, to sing for our special someone in front of a large crowd. nice one zo!

nakaka-aaaawwww yung song, pero pag "greatest story ever told" yung kinanta niya baka maiyak pa ko. hehe :)
